CARE & MAINTENANCE

Taking care of soapstone is a breeze. After your countertop is installed, a coat of mineral oil should be applied to quicken the darkening process. In order to keep this look we recommend reapplying the mineral oil every week for the first two months. Mineral oil does not seal or protect the stone; it is only used for aesthetic purposes.

After the first two months we recommend applying the oil only once a month or until the stone is the desired color. To apply the mineral oil that was left with the finished job, you will need only a soft towel or cloth. Apply the mineral directly to the stone and use the towel to spread the oil around. You can remove any excess oil with a dry cloth to bring the stone to the desired feel.

In order to clean your soapstone, we recommend simply using a damp cloth or sponge with a gentle soap cleanser. Dish soap is the best.

For a deep clean, ANY cleaner will work without harming the stone. Keep in mind if you are cleaning with harsh chemicals the mineral oil will be cleaned off the stone and will need to be reapplied.
